Area volleyball players lauded for their talents

The Iowa Girls Coaches Association has released all-state and all-district selections for the recent volleyball season.

South Central Calhoun’s Jayci Graeve and Newell-Fonda’s Kinzee Hinders each made all-state teams, while Mariah Myers of St. Edmond was one of 15 from the area to make all-district squads.

Graeve, a senior, had 355 kills with 239 digs, 108 assists, 25 blocks and 18 aces for the Titans in 40 matches. South Central Calhoun went 28-12 and finished in a tie for the Twin Lakes Conference title at 9-2.

The Titans shared the league crown with Newell-Fonda and Hinders, as the Mustangs went 24-9 overall. Hinders, a senior, had 368 kills, 223 digs, 65 blocks and 34 aces in 2024.

Both Graeve and Hinders were among those earning all-district honors as well.

Myers, a senior who signed her letter of intent to play softball at the University of Iowa earlier this month, made the most of her lone season on the varsity volleyball court for the Gaels, recording 299 kills with 310 digs, 20 aces and 17 blocks in 28 matches played.

In 3A, Humboldt’s Larsen Bonnstetter and Mia Schulter were joined on the all-district squad by Indy Johnson from Clarion-Goldfield/Dows. Making teams in 2A were Brenna McAlister of South Central Calhoun, Addisen Ehlers from East Sac County, Amanda Davis of Pocahontas Area, and Emmetsburg’s Calista Joyce and Rachel Schany.

Newell-Fonda’s Anna Mercer and Mareni Brabec, Bishop Garrigan’s Graclyn Eastman, and West Bend-Mallard’s Allie Fehr made all-district in 1A.

Fort Dodge had four make the academic all-state squad: Lacey Larson, Grace Behrens, Lucy Porter and Jacey Cooper. St. Edmond’s Sasha Hess also made academic all-state.
