No. 7 Tritons fall to Northeast at the net
CEDAR RAPIDS — The seventh-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team has to play the waiting game now.
The Tritons (29-7 overall) lost in straight sets to Northeast in the Region XI semifinals on Saturday, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-21.
Manson Northwest Webster graduate Emily Goodner led the Tritons with 14 kills, while Talya Sampson had eight kills.
Goodner and Olivia Benson recorded 14 digs each. Anabel Seaman added 12.
Third-ranked Kirkwood earned the automatic bid with a three-set sweep of Northeast.
The at-large bids for nationals will be announced on Thursday.
“While we’re disappointed to not win regionals and get an automatic bid to the national tournament, we are hopeful that our strength of schedule and resume are enough to get us a wild-card bid,” ICCC head coach Sara Horn said. “We’re proud of the effort that our players have put in this season.”
The NJCAA Div. II tournament will be held Nov. 20 through Nov. 23 in Cedar Rapids.
