No. 8 Tritons sweep in regular-season finale
The eighth-ranked (NJCAA Div. II) Iowa Central volleyball squad swept Iowa Western in their regular-season finale on Saturday inside Hodges Fieldhouse.
Scores were 25-23, 25-22 and 25-20 in favor of the Tritons (28-6 overall, 9-2 in the ICCAC) over the NJCAA Div. I Reivers (19-14).
“We knew we wanted a tough opponent going into regional week,” ICCC head coach Sara Horn said. “Our players definitely rose to the challenge. It was great to see them not only come out strong and sweep a Div. I opponent, but be able to battle back from some deficits and not back down.”
Talya Sampson had 10 kills for Iowa Central, with former Manson Northwest Webster standout Emily Goodner adding seven. Goodner and Natalie Hagadon recorded 11 digs each.
Anabel Seaman finished with 16 assists. Olivia Sturgis (Manson Northwest Webster) led the way in blocks).
Hagadon tallied five service aces.
“Going into postseason play, we’re feeling good with where we’re at,” Horn said. “The players have worked hard this whole season and continue to take steps forward, even after some setbacks.”
Second-seeded Iowa Central opens Region XI play on Wednesday at home against Western Iowa Tech. The match begins at 7 p.m.
The winner faces either Northeast or Ellsworth on Saturday.
Kirkwood is the top seed.
