Tritons open wrestling season
ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Iowa Central men’s wrestling team kicked off their season with action here Saturday at the Yellowjacket Open.
A total of 11 wrestlers earned Top-8 finishes, led by winners Jaydale Whitlock and Chance Davis. Drew Cooper and Sam Libby both placed second for the Tritons.
Whitlock won all three of his matches by fall or technical fall at 125 pounds, including a 20-2 triumph in the finals over Thomas Giere of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Davis steamrolled through at 157, earning three falls, a technical fall and a 17-7 major decision in the finals vs. Cash Raymond from Augustana.
Cooper went 4-1, falling to Tegan Sherk of Ridgewater in the 133-pound finals, 9-8. Libby was the 184-pound runner-up.
Chase Moore and Coen Grimm earned thirds, Gary Walker was fourth, Marcelo Rosario placed fifth and Kaden Golder, Umair Ahmad and Kyle Oliveira all finished eighth.
Iowa Central is back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 13, for an ICCAC dual at Ellsworth.
