Gaels, Humboldt head to Hampton
HAMPTON — The St. Edmond wrestling team hits the road to close out 2024 starting here Thursday night with a North Central Conference triangular.
Competing for the first time in over a week after the Bob Roethler Invitational was canceled last Saturday due to inclement weather, the Gaels (0-2 overall, 0-2 in NCC) take on Hampton-Dumont/CAL and Humboldt beginning at 6 p.m.
From there, St. Edmond returns to tournament action on Saturday in Story City at the Jim Kinyon Norsemen Invitational hosted by Roland-Story.
Senior Sam Myer, a two-time state qualifier, placed fourth at the Doug Wood Invitational to begin the season earlier this month, and earned two wins by fall in dual action last week to improve to 4-2 on the year.
Drake Yurkovac, a newcomer to the team, has two wins while Matthew Crimmins and Dallas Groves each have one.
Humboldt (0-1, 0-1) dropped a 39-24 decision to Algona earlier this year while winning its own Joe Fitch Invitational
Owen Mayall, Cyler Cirks and Broedy Hendricks all had titles at the Joe Fitch, as Sam Knight, Jonny Hayden, Tyce Clarken, Brady Beers, Jaxson Kirchhoff, Braden Downs and Landon Halverson each placed second.
In the dual with Algona, Knight, Cirks, Tyce Clarken, Halverson and Hendricks were each winners.
Hampton-Dumont/CAL (3-1, 1-1) swept a triangular with Mason City and Janesville while splitting one with Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and Webster City.
Along with St. Edmond and host Roland-Story on Saturday, the field includes Eagle Grove, Southeast Valley, Anamosa, Atlantic, Earlham, East Marshall/GMG, Estherville-LC, Gilbert, Grinnell, Hampton-Dumont/CAL, Ogden, Saint Ansgar, Sergeant Bluff-Luton, South Hamilton, the Southeast Polk JV, Winterset and Woodward-Granger.
