Gaels, Humboldt wrestle at H-D
HAMPTON — The St. Edmond wrestling team welcomed back a key member of the lineup here Thursday night in a North Central Conference triangular with Humboldt and Hampton-Dumont/CAL.
The Gaels dropped both duals, falling to the Wildcats, 76-6, and the Bulldogs, 75-6. Humboldt finished the night off with a 36-30 victory over Hampton-Dumont/CAL.
Adam Walker made his debut in the lineup for St. Edmond vs. Humboldt, as the senior scored a second-period fall at heavyweight. Walker, a two-time all-state football player, was injured in the playoffs.
Matthew Crimmins, a freshman, battled returning state medalist Cyler Cirks for three rounds, dropping a major decision.
Brady Beers, Cael Donahe and Carson Ireland each picked up falls for the Wildcats versus St. Edmond. Cirks scored a major decision while Jaxson Kirchhoff, Braden Downs, Trey Al-Hameed, Landon Halverson, Broedy Hendricks, Sam Knight, Jonny Hayden, Owen Mayall and Tyce Clarken all were awarded forfeits.
In the second dual of the night vs. Hampton-Dumont/CAL, Walker secured another fall, pinning his opponent in just 1:44.
Senior Sam Myer dropped a tough 5-4 decision at 144 pounds to Jaymes Stevens.
In the win over Hampton-Dumont/CAL, Knight, Mayall, Clarken, Beers, Al-Hameed, Halverson and Hendricks all had wins. Knight, Mayall, Clarken, Al-Hameed and Hendricks won via fall.
The final 2024 action for the Gaels will see them take part in the Jim Kinyon Norsemen Invitational in Story City on Saturday. Along with St. Edmond and host Roland-Story, the field includes Eagle Grove, Southeast Valley, Anamosa, Atlantic, Earlham, East Marshall/GMG, Estherville-LC, Gilbert, Grinnell, Hampton-Dumont/CAL, Ogden, Saint Ansgar, Sergeant Bluff-Luton, South Hamilton, the Southeast Polk JV, Winterset and Woodward-Granger.
