Horn named new Iowa Central AD
Schoo's current associate AD will replace Twait this summer
For the past three years, Guy Horn has been shadowing Kevin Twait as an associate athletic director at Iowa Central Community College.
Now, with Twait retiring as athletic director in June, a plan is officially in place to make Horn his successor for the 33 Triton athletic programs.
The school made the formal announcement of Horn’s promotion on Thursday.
Since returning to Iowa Central in January of 2015, Horn has been the head athletic trainer. He then took the associate athletic director position in 2021.
“This is an exciting opportunity,” Horn said. “Iowa Central has been part of my family for 12 years. I have worked with all of our coaches and athletes, and feel this will be a smooth transition. I’m excited for the opportunity to help build on the success that we’ve already experienced as an athletic department. We have an incredible athletics staff, and I will be there to support them and our student athletes.
“We will continue to provide an exceptional student experience — second to none.”
In his role as associate athletic director, Horn helped oversee all 33 varsity sports, along with schedulding of athletic facilities, being an athletic projector coordinator, working with NJCAA compliance submissions, fundraising, budgeting, and hiring of staff for the department.
At the same time, he was in charge of coordinating all the duties with being the head athletic trainer. That included hosting national tournaments and handling protocol put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Guy is more than ready for this opportunity,” Twait said. “He understands that the role of a collegiate athletic director is to work behind the scenes and enhance the experience of the student athletes.
“He will do an outstanding job leading our athletic program.”
Horn returned to Fort Dodge with his wife, head volleyball coach Sara Horn, and their three children following a three-year stint at Morningside College in Sioux City, where he was the head athletic trainer.
Prior to that, Horn was the co-athletic trainer at Iowa Central from 2009-11 after spending several years in Nebraska with Wayne State College and Alegent Health-Papillion La-Vista South High School.
Horn played football at Northwest Missouri State and Midland University, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree from Midland in fitness and sports management. He obtained his Master’s of Science and Education from Wayne State in sports management.
Since 1990, just four people have served as athletic director at Iowa Central. Legendary head basketball coach Dennis Pilcher held the title for 20 years until passing the reins of to Hall of Fame baseball and softball coach Rick Sandquist in 2010. Sandquist turned the title over to Twait — who had previously helped take the Triton football program to new heights — in 2018.
“Kevin has been an outstanding mentor,” Horn said. “He has supported me on this journey for the last three years, providing me with some incredible learning opportunities and great leadership. Kevin bleeds Navy and White…he will be missed by everyone. I hope to step in and be the school’s biggest fan and advocate, just like he was.
“I want to thank Iowa Central’s administration for giving me the opportunity and trust to help lead the Tritons into the future.”
One of Horn’s first major tasks will be to serve as host for the 2025 NJCAA Div. I, II and III Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Half Marathon Championships. Those events take place this coming fall at Lakeside Golf Course.
Guy and Sara Horn live in Fort Dodge with their three children: Hunter, Eden and Emerie.
