Road trips up for Gaels

The St. Edmond basketball teams will have a two-game road trip this week.

The Gaels will head to Southeast Valley on Tuesday and travel to Iowa Falls-Alden on Friday.

The Gael girls (0-2 overall) are looking to get into the win column against the Jaguars (0-3). The Gael boys (2-0) are looking for three straight against Southeast Valley (1-1).

On Friday, the Gael boys will face the Cadets (1-1) and the Gael girls will meet Iowa Falls-Alden (2-2).

Tuesday’s action begins at 6 p.m. for girls and 7:30 p.m. for boys. Friday’s games will start at 6:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.

The St. Edmond boys have won their first two contests, coming off a 72-39 victory over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and starting the season with a 56-51 win over Bishop Garrigan.

Both Hunter Horn and Jakob Koopman have reached double digits in both contests. Horn went for 25 against the Cowboys and 21 against the Golden Bears, averaging 23 per contest. Koopman had 11 and 13.

Horn has 29 rebounds in the two contests, 18 coming against the Cowboys. Horn has two double doubles and Koopman has one.

The Jaguars are coming off a 74-43 win over West Bend-Mallard and suffered a 73-31 loss to Madrid.

Fort Dodge transfer Drake Warland has 39 points in two games for the Jaguars. Warland had 28 points in the win against the Wolverines. Casey Hanson had 12 against the Wolverines and 10 in the loss.

The Cadets are coming off a 67-48 win over South Hamilton. Three players reached double figures, led by Kale Kalous’ 21 points. Karsen Kalous had 17 and Carson Allen added 12. Kale Kalous is averaging 21 points and Karsen Kalous is at 10 point clip.

For the St. Edmond girls, sophomore Chloe Palmer has scored 15 points this season. Senior Josie Harvey has 14 points, while junior Anna Lursen has scored 11.

Lursen is the rebound leader with 18 and Palmer and Harvey have 14 each.

Junior Madelyn Farley is averaging 12 points a game, while classmate Camryn Lane is scoring at a 10.5 clip.

The Cadets have a balanced offense, paced by junior Joslin Johnson (12 ppg.). Senior Brooklyn Handeland (10.0), freshman Elody England (10.2) and senior Addison Dennis (8.8) are the other leading scorers for Iowa Falls-Alden.
