Dodger girls in action at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN — The Fort Dodge girls wrestling team picked up four victories in a dual against Marshalltown on Thursday.

The Dodgers dropped the match by a final of 48-23.

Alivya Rokes earned a fall in 3:10 over Marshalltown’s Patricia Mateo Merita at 120 pounds.

“Alivya wrestle (Mateo Merita) on Tuesday in the conference meet,” said FDSH Jon Koenig. “She had it in her mind to go out there and wrestle hard and beat her this time around.

“When (Alivya) first started this year, she got hurt. We’ve been working her way back into the mix and had her in JV (before Thursday) for experience.”

No. 4 (IAwrestle) Mariah Benedict picked up another fall, pinning Ella DeMonte in 16 seconds. Brooklyn Nelson moved up to 115 pounds and earned a 19-4 technical fall over Adele Beek in two minutes.

“Brooklyn did a great job at a different weight,” Koenig said. “She has a strong mindset and is focused on getting better and making it to the state tournament. She will have three ranked girls at our regional.

“Mariaha just stays focused and ready at all times.”

Jessenia Elias (170) won by forfeit for FDSH.

The Dodgers are back in action on Saturday when they compete in the Northern Iowa Girls Wrestling tournament in Mason City. Action begins at 10 a.m.
