Gael girls pick up road win
EAGLE GROVE — The St. Edmond girls were able to start a busy week with a win here Monday night over Eagle Grove, 48-37.
Anna Lursen scored 16 points to lead the Gaels, as Chloe Palmer added 10 and Josie Harvey chipped in nine.
St. Edmond (3-7 overall) built a 19-point lead late in the game before the Eagles (1-11) chipped away. Taytum Edwards scored 14 and Kendra Schild had nine.
“It was good to start off a busy week with a win,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We’ll spend the next couple of days working on correcting the things we saw as coaches.
“Anna had a big night, as she had to be close to 20 rebounds. We moved the ball better on offense and the girls did a great job of finding the open shooter.”
Following a one-point lead after the first quarter, St. Edmond jumped on Eagle Grove in the second, outscoring them 12-2. They held a nine-point cushion entering the fourth.
“We’ve got to do a better job of keeping the pressure on teams when we have a lead,” Tracy said. “The girls will learn from this and be better the next time.”
Abby Huss had five points and Payton Bradley finished with four in her return to the court.
The Gaels have now won two in a row in the series and are 17-3 since 2007 vs. the Eagles.
Up next for St. Edmond will be back-to-back road games starting Thursday at Manson Northwest Webster followed by Webster City for North Central Conference play on Friday night.
