Gael wrestlers travel to Webster City
WEBSTER CITY — Ahead of hosting their own dual tournament, the St. Edmond wrestling team hits the mats here Thursday night.
The Gaels will battle in North Central Conference action against both host Webster City and Algona.
Wrestling begins at 6 p.m.
After opening 2025 with a loss to Coon Rapids-Bayard last week, St. Edmond (0-5 overall, 0-4 in league) will try to gain some momentum before the annual dual tournament on Saturday.
Sam Myer earned a technical fall in that dual with Coon Rapids-Bayard for the lone Gael victory. The senior has a record of 6-7 this year, leading the way in victories.
Senior Adam Walker is 4-2, freshman Matthew Crimmins is 4-3 while sophomore Drake Yurkovac owns two victories and classmate Dallas Groves one. Freshman Owen Rutherford has also been in the lineup this season for head coach Kaden McClintock.
In the latest Iowa High School Athletic Association dual team rankings, Algona (3-0, 3-0) is second in Class 2A behind only Williamsburg. The Bulldogs return seven state medalists and five North Central Conference champions including Tate Slagle, who has committed to the University of Iowa for baseball.
Newcomer Jack Limbaugh, an Iowa State University football commit, has joined the team and competes at heavyweight.
Webster City is 2-3 overall and 1-2 in league action under head coach Drake Doolittle. The Lynx were in action Tuesday night against Eagle Grove.
