EAGLE GROVE — A quick start helped the ninth-ranked (Class 1A) St. Edmond boys get back on track here Monday night, as they picked up a 70-51 victory over Eagle Grove.

After dropping games to No. 2 (3A) Clear Lake and Humboldt last week, the Gaels (7-2 overall) used a 28-point night out of Hunter Horn to secure the win.

Carson Bargfrede added 13 points and Jack McElroy 10.

For the Eagles, Abraham Lin scored 17, Jaxon Morris had 15 and Josh Miller scored 12.

“It was a great to start off the week with a win,” SEHS head coach Adolph Kochendorfer said. “This was an important game for us to get some momentum going after last week.

“We had a nice first quarter, using our defense and rebounding to get into transition where we got some point-blank buckets. We kept that going in the second quarter, but credit Eagle Grove for coming out strong in the third.”

Jakob Koopman finished with seven while Andrew Clavey and Grant Galles both had five.

“We got some really good production from a lot of kids,” Kochendorfer said. “Jack did a nice job of running the offense and Hunter was on the glass.

“We missed from free throws in the second half that kept the score where it was.”

St. Edmond now heads to Iowa Falls-Alden on Tuesday with road trips to Manson Northwest Webster on Thursday and Webster City on Friday to complete the week.
