Senior Night up next for Fort Dodge wrestlers
The Fort Dodge wrestling team is in the home stretch of the regular season, as they host Mason City here Thursday night beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The Dodgers will honor their senior class, a group that includes defending state champion Koy Davidson along with Hunter Richardson, John Phan and Alexander Jensen.
Fort Dodge also received its regional dual assignment, as the 24th-ranked Dodgers will meet No. 22 Cedar Rapids Prairie on Tuesday in Pleasant Hill. Awaiting the winner is top-ranked Southeast Polk.
This past weekend, Fort Dodge battled at the stacked Ed Winger Invitational, as Dreshaun Ross moved to 102-2 in his career with a victory at 215 pounds. Davidson was second, with five others earning medals: Jesse Egli, Damien Yeoman, Rylee Brown and Joe Constable.
With a win over the Riverhawks, the Dodgers would secure a perfect run through the Iowa Alliance Conference North Division, as they hold wins over Ames, Marshalltown and Waterloo East this year.
FDSH also heads to Des Moines on Saturday for the IAC Tournament, hosted by Des Moines East. Rounding out the field will be Des Moines Lincoln, Des Moines North-Hoover, Des Moines Roosevelt, Marshalltown, Mason City, Ottumwa and Waterloo East.
Fort Dodge is the defending IAC champion, scoring 248.5 points last year to finish well ahead of Ottumwa and Ames. The Dodgers crowned four individual champs last year in then-seniors Dru Ayala and Kane Butrick, Sam Davidson and Ross. Ten others securing a spot on the podium, including 2024 runner-ups returning to action in Koy Davidson and Rylee Brown.
