Triton men stretch win streak to 3
The Iowa Central men won for the third straight time here Saturday, besting Southwestern, 84-68.
The Tritons (11-7 overall, 5-4 in the ICCAC) are now 7-2 this season inside Hodges Fieldhouse under first-year head coach Ryan Kirsch.
Four Iowa Central players reached double figures, led by 18 from Jalen Wynter. Cooper Randall scored 13, CJ Mitchell had 12 and Lane Campbell chipped in 11 off the bench.
Mitchell and Campbell both had five rebounds.
For Southwestern, Rickey Loftin II had a game-high 27 points.
“Awesome offensively for the game,” Kirsch said. “Jalen showed again why he is the best shooter in the ICCAC. Cooper continues to shoot the cover off it and has found a nice role for us.”
The Tritons raced out to a 39-25 halftime advantage as Wynter scored 11, knocking down three 3-pointers.
“I was really, really happy with our first-half effort, especially on the defensive end,” Kirsch said. “We were able to start with three consecutive kills. I continue to challenge this group to be better on the defensive end, and to hold them to 37 percent shooting, was really good.”
Along with shooting 55 percent from the field, ICCC held a plus-24 advantage on points in the paint and scored 24 points off 16 turnovers, as Southwestern never led.
Iowa Central remains home this week, hosting Iowa Lakes on Wednesday night.
