Iowa Central left no doubt in their conference win over NIACC on Thursday night.

The third-ranked Triton women (3-2 overall) lost only one match, picking up five falls. NIACC also handed the Tritons five victories via forfeit in Iowa Central’s 51-8 rout of the Trojans that took only 25 minutes to complete.

“The girls came out ready to wrestle,” said ICCC head coach Zak Hensely. “They were aggressive and just got after it, not worrying about who their opponent was.”

In her first match as a Triton, Maia Esera (207) earned an upset. Esera, who has been on campus playing for the Iowa Central volleyball team, recently joined the wrestling squad.

Esera, who is from Hawaii, competed in high school and showed no signs of mat rust. She picked up a fall in 2:42 over 10th-ranked Detinee Thomas.

“This was Maia’s first time on the mat for us,” Hensely said. “She came out hungry and ready.”

Second-ranked Annabelle Petsinger (125) earned the fastest fall of the night, pinning Jenesis Sanders in 55 seconds.

All of Iowa Central’s falls came in the first period. After forfeit victories from ninth-ranked Myay Rausch (103 pounds) and No. 12 Aneth Campos (110), 10th-rated Lacey Reed pinned Maria Roque in 1:15 at 117.

“We just came out and tried to score points,” Hensely said. “We wanted to make the matches enjoyable and exciting.”

No. 7 Avery Mohr (131) and top-ranked Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Alexis Ross (138) also earned forfeit wins.

At 145, Ellie Brenneman pinned Maria Sanfiel in 2:50. No. 10 Allie Grow (160) tallied a fall in 2:21 over Carly Klein.

Ninth-rated Brylie Schaub (180) tacked on the final forfeit.

The Tritons are back in action on Saturday when they head to Poteau, Okla. for the Women’s Coaches Association Duals. Action begins at 10 a.m.
