Dodger boys head to DC-G for substate opener

GRIMES — The Fort Dodge boys basketball team opens postseason play on Monday night.

The Dodgers (5-16 overall) travel for a Class 4A, Region 8 quarterfinal at Dallas Center-Grimes (17-5).

Tip is set for 7 p.m.

The Dodgers are coming off a 72-62 victory at Perry last Tuesday. Senior Cade Westerhoff had the best game of his career, recording a double-double.

Westerhoff finished with had 28 points and 21 rebounds. He added six assists and four steals.

Fellow senior Carter Woodruff tallied 16 points.

Westerhoff is leading the Dodgers, averaging 14.4 points per game. Woodruff is scoring at a 9.4-point clip and freshman Reggie Pederson checks in at 7.2 a game. Westerhoff is pulling down 8.1 rebounds.

The Mustangs have won 10 straight games. Senior Kyle Carson is averaging 23.1 points and eight rebounds for the Little Hawkeye Conference champions. Tate Perrin adds 11.2 points per contest, and Mateo Dzolota is at 8.5.

The Mustangs have made a living behind the arc, hitting nearly twice as many as the Dodgers this season (147 three-point baskets for DC-G versus 77 for FDSH).
