FOUR HORSEMEN

HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt wrestling team will have four representatives at the state tournament.

The Wildcats won the district championship with four champions. Humboldt (191) edged West Marshall (189) for the team crown.

The meet was moved up a day because of possible inclement weather.

Eighth-ranked (IAwrestle) Cyler Cirks (132), No. 6 Tyce Clarken (138), Landon Halverson (175), and fourth-ranked Broedy Hendricks (190) will compete in the state tournament

The senior trio of Cirks (31-8), Clarken (37-5) and Halverson (42-8) have a combined five state trips.

Cirks, who missed as a junior will be back for the third time. Clarken, who was eighth a year ago, is making back-to-back trips and Halverson is in his first trip.

Hendricks (42-3) was a state runner up last season at 165 pounds.

Cirks made easy work of his day, pinning Jackson Babcock of Eagle Grove in three minutes. He beat Cael Cotter of North Polk, 7-1 in the finals.

Clarken had a fall over Southeast Valley’s Allan Summers (:25) and Ben Kusar of Perry in 3:38.

Halverson had a fall over North Polk’s Mason Ackerson (1:39) and a major decision to beat Eagle Grove’s Jayden Kreitlow (10-2).

Hendricks had a 15-0 tech fall over North Polk’s Gabe Visalden and pinned West Marshall’s Dawson Goodman (2:37).

Dylan Friederes (106), Henry Kramer (120), Jaxson Kirchoff (150), Braden Downs (157), and Cael Donahe (215) just missed state, placing third.

Eagle Grove

The Eagles earned three state berths, with one champion and two runners up.

Senior Jesus Baez (34-22) was the champion of the 285 pound weight class. Baez advanced to the finals with a fall in 2:59 over Ayden Flengo of Humboldt.

To advance, he beat Narciso Hidalgo of Perry 4-1 in SV-1.

Juniors Hayden Schafer (157) and Jayden Kreitlow (175) advanced. Schafer lost in the finals to Greene County’s Brent Dennhardt by fall in 49 seconds. He secured a spot with an 8-1 decision over Downs of Humboldt

Kreitlow lost to Halverson in the finals and moved on with a 17-8 major decision over Mason Ackerman of North Polk.

Greene County

The Rams punched six state tickets.

Brent Denhardt (157) and Degan Miller (165) were district champions.

Brennan Jacobs (106), Jaron Jacobs (113), Gavyn Winters (120), and Marcus Ball (215) were all runners up.

Southeast Valley’s Wyatt Blair (113) finished third. He won 41 matches this season.

Eagle Grove’s Hunter Waldo-Martinez (126) was also third.
