Home finale for FDSH basketball teams
The regular season winds down for the Fort Dodge basketball teams starting Tuesday with a home doubleheader against Des Moines Roosevelt.
Varsity tip is set for 6:15 p.m. inside the FDSH gym with the girls contest for Senior Night.
While Scott Messerly and the Fort Dodge girls (8-13) compete for a final time in the regular season, Willie Williams and the Dodger boys have one game next Monday at Perry remaining before postseason action.
Fort Dodge snapped its recent losing streak with a dominant 69-17 victory at Des Moines North last Friday, as LJ Maehl scored 25 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds. Ellie Doster added 11 points and Dakota Pommer 10 in the win.
Maehl leads the Dodgers in scoring at 18 per night, shooting 46 percent from the field while also grabbing eight rebounds a game. Senior Meah McCaleb is second in scoring, followed by Pommer.
Roosevelt (12-7) has won six in a row and sits atop the Iowa Alliance South with a perfect 10-0 record. They are led by juniors Keke Walker and Malaina Hackley, who average 14 and nine points per game, respectively.
The Fort Dodge boys (4-15) have dropped four in a row, but have hung tough with Storm Lake and Des Moines North recently before fading down the stretch.
Senior Cade Westerhoff leads the Dodgers in scoring at 14 points per night and rebounding at seven. Classmate Carter Woodruff is next in line at 8.8 points, while also adding 3.3 assists per contest.
Freshman Reggie Pederson scores at a seven-point clip, while junior Taevon Feeley chips in five rebounds a night.
Along with McCaleb, Westerhoff and Woodruff, Fort Dodge will honor seniors Brooklyn Pommer and Janelle Derrig.
The Roosevelt boys (13-5) have won three straight, downing Des Moines Hoover, East and Lincoln by scoring 75, 76 and 76 points. They are led by sophomore Charlie King, who averages 17 a night, and senior Remi Taylor, who posts almost 16.
