Iowa Central men win again, 89-88

The Iowa Central men have found their rhythm once again here late in the season.

Daviyon Gaston sank a jumper with 12 seconds left and Lane Campbell had a steal to secure an 89-88 victory over Northeast here Wednesday night inside Hodges Fieldhouse.

The back-and-forth affair saw 10 ties and 15 lead changes, as the Tritons (16-11 overall, 9-8 in the ICCAC) led by as many as 13 at one point.

Jordan Cain scored 14 points with six rebounds to lead Iowa Central, as Riley Edwards and Irakli Akhalaia each had 11. Gaston and Terrius Walker both scored 10 with Walker adding seven rebounds.

For Northeast (7-16, 4-12), Luke Brown had a game-high 34 with Vincent Garrett adding 27. The two combined for 33 in the second half, helping the Hawks erase a 10-point halftime deficit.

Edwards, the son of former Fort Dodge Senior High head coach Brad Edwards, scored all 11 of his points in six minutes off the bench in the first half, knocking down three 3-pointers.

As a team, Iowa Central hit 10 triples in the opening 20 minutes and shot 58 percent from the field. In the second half, Walker, Campbell and Cain combined for 23 points to help the Tritons get by Northeast.

Iowa Central received 54 points off its bench, helping overcome the 28 points Northeast scored off 20 turnovers while holding a plus-10 advantage on points in the paint.

The Tritons host Dakota County on Saturday for Sophomore Day.
