Three-game week ahead for Dodgers
As the regular season winds down, the weeks tend to get busier.
That remains the case for the Fort Dodge basketball programs.
The Dodgers will play Monday, Thursday and Friday this week.
The Dodger girls (7-11 overall) open on Monday at home against Urbandale (3-14). They’ll then have road contests versus Storm Lake (10-7) on Thursday and Des Moines North (0-13) on Friday.
The Dodger boys (4-12) face the J-Hawks (5-9) at home, followed by a trip to take on the seventh-ranked (Class 3A) Tornadoes (12-1) and Polar Bears (10-4).
The girls games begin at 6:15 p.m. Monday and Friday, with Thursday’s varsity twinbill tipping off at 6 p.m. The boys will follow.
The FDSH girls have dropped three straight after taking three of four. Junior LJ Maehl is leading the scoring attack, averaging 17.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per night.
Senior Meah McCaleb is scoring at a 7.3-point clip, while also pulling down 5.4 rebounds and contributing 3.8 assists and 4.2 steals.
Urbandale is paced by Lauren Salmon (7.6), Reese DeVooght (7.0), Ava Wattler (7.0), Mariah Dixon (6.1) and Lauren Timmer (6.0).
Adeeya Yanga is pacing the Tornadoes, averaging 17.6 points. Avery DeHaan is scoring at a 12.2-point clip.
Aryam Salah is averaging 10 points for North.
The Fort Dodge boys, who have won two of their last three, are looking to end a six-game series slide against the J-Hawks.
The Dodgers are led in scoring by senior Cade Westerhoff at 13.8 per night, while senior Carter Woodruff is averaging 8.6 and freshman Reggie Pederson is at 7.1.
Davis Hardersen is the J-Hawks’ leading scorer at 15.6 points per contest. Jaxson Carthcart (9.4), and Jake Pargeon (9.0), and Caleb Hadden (8.4) follow.
Storm Lake has won six consecutive games and is led by Div. I prospect Jaidyn Coon, who is scoring 22 a night. Cameron Boyd (13.1) and Trey Boettcher (10.7) also average in double figures.
North has won the last three games against the Dodgers in the series. The leading scorers for the Polar Bears are Da’Corion White (15.7), Tarian McNeley (11.8), and Naszier Lamar (10.5).
