Algona boys 2nd in 3A at IATC Indoor

AMES — The Algona boys had an impressive showing at the IATC Indoor Championships, winning two relays and finishing second in Class 3A to Pella by just two points.

William Weichert, Tate Garman, Levi Walker and Evan Allie captured the 4×100 in a U.S. leading time of 43.49, while Garman, Tyler Bradley, Allie and Gavin Weber went 3:39.16 to win the distance medley in another top time in the U.S. this year.

Humboldt had a trio of second place performances, led by Elliot Carlson in the long jump.

Max Nevitt led three Bulldog throwers in the shot put, placing second with a toss of 52-5.5. Will Limbaugh was fifth and Jack Limbaugh eighth in the same event.

Algona’s 4×400 of Ashton Moreno, Bradley, Walker and Allie were third, as was Weber in the 1,600. Allie finished fifth in the 200. Garman took seventh.

Weichert was sixth in the 60 and eighth in the long jump.

Joining Carlson as silver medalists were the Humboldt shuttle hurdle and 4×800 relays. Coen Matson, Jackson Dodd, Griffin Groat and Keegan Groat comprised the shuttle hurdle in 34.58 while Dodd, Chase Flaherty, Jackson Flaherty and Mason Van Pelt went 8:26.77.

Emmetsburg’s Byron Maina placed third in the high jump in 2A while Redge Potts of South Central Calhoun took fourth in both the 1,600 and 3,200 in 2A.

The Southeast Valley 4×100 of Dreyvon Steadman, Logan Jaeschke, Kayden Showers and Bryce Harrison placed seventh in 2A.

Eagle Grove’s Josh Miller finished eighth in the 2A high jump.
