Big weekend for Triton baseball
A strong offensive display sent Iowa Central to a weekend series sweep of Mott County Community College.
Head coach Eric Stein’s Tritons (11-3-1 overall) had 13 extra-base hits in front of a home crowd at Mary and Maurie Stark Family Field at Rogers Park.
Six of those were home runs, guiding the Tritons to 14-12, 11-1, 14-5, and 8-5 wins.
Freshman righty Carter Giesen held the visiting Bears to only one run on three hits with seven strikeouts in the series’ second contest.
First-year starter Maddux Gast and red-shirt freshman Will Ho combined for nine strikeouts in game three.
Freshman reliever Shawn Stewart was practically flawless in the finale, keeping a late-game MCCC rally away with four strikeouts over three frames of scoreless pitching.
Individual offensive leaders were many for the home side.
Sophomore infielder/outfielder Isaiah Scott garnered a three-hit effort to go with two hits and two runs scored for red-shirt sophomore Chayton Fischer in game three.
Fischer had a similar line in game two and red-shirt freshman Bryson Carpenter tallied three hits in the opener to spotlight the numbers.
The Tritons resume a current nine-game home set Tuesday against Dakota County Technical College.
Iowa Central is also scheduled to face off against Miles Community College Saturday and Sunday.
