Cooper, Grimm earn silver

COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Iowa Central wrestling team left the NJCAA Championships with another Top-5 finish and five individual medals to add to the collection.

Indian Hills ran away with the overall championship with 182 points, scoring two individual titles and seven other medals, as Clackamas was second followed by Western Wyoming, Fort Hays Tech and the Tritons, who have now finished in the Top-8 each of the past 21 seasons.

Drew Cooper and Coen Grimm both advanced to the finals at their respective weights, finishing second overall. Kaden King was third, Lawrence Rosario placed fifth, Jaydale Whitlock was seventh and Matthew Roche finished eighth.

Cooper, competing at 133 pounds, dropped an 11-4 decision to Gavin Bauder of Clackamas in the finals. The redshirt freshman had scored three pins and a decision to reach the championship.

Grimm, a freshman, was topped by Andrew Marquez of Indian Hills at 197, 4-1, after winning four straight decisions over two days.

Rosario earned his second spot on the podium after placing third last winter. Whitlock scored his first medal after qualifying as a freshman.

During the awards presentation from the Mid-America Center, long-time Iowa Central head coach Luke Moffitt was inducted into the NJCAA Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Moffitt has coached 36 individual national champs, while also leading the Tritons to six team titles and 14 Top-3 finishes at nationals.
