Gael girls fare well at Wartburg

WAVERLY — The St. Edmond girls track team got in some early action here Tuesday at the Wartburg High School Invitational.

Anna Lursen captured gold in the 800 with a time of 2:27.83 to lead the Gaels, who had 10 other Top-10 finishes.

Lursen added another top performance, as the junior was also fifth in the 1,500 in 5:15.76.

Mariah Myers placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 35-11.25. Josie Harvey took sixth in the 55 hurdles in 9.37.

“This was a great way to start the year for us,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We haven’t had many practices and the girls did a great job competing.

“We’re very excited to see where this leads us as the season progresses.”

Sasha Hess was seventh in the 400 (1:07.74) and Lily Eslick took eventh in the 3,000 (13:37.35). Myrah Lemon placed eighth in the long jump (14-3), Eslick was ninth in the 1,500 (6:07.27), Faith Shirbroun placed ninth in the 55 (8.24) and Naomi Valles was 10th in the 3,000 (14:32.93).

The 4×400 relay of Hess, Lursen, Ava Bradley and Harvey finished sixth in 4:36.97.

Addyson Jeske of Eagle Grove was the runner-up in the long jump, leaping 16-2, while Myka Anderson finishes ninth in the 400.

The 4×200 finished seventh and the 4×800 ninth for the Eagles.
