McCaleb wins HJ for Dodgers

DES MOINES — Freshman Amari McCaleb brought home the high jump title on Saturday at the Don Graves Classic in Des Moines.

McCaleb went 5-8 to win the event.

“Amari had a good meet,” said Fort Dodge head coach Nik Moser. “Afterwards he was talking about getting better and that’s what we want.”

The 4×800 team of Jayce Point, Cael Hansen, Avery Bryhne and Joseph Petersen were second.

The distance medley quartet of Tru McBride, Dalton Eckley, Zak Jorgensen and Petersen were also second.

Also earning silver was McBride, Sam Moser, Rylan Kingrey and Taevon Feeley.

Hunter Richardson, Moser, Luke Beckley and Feeley were second in the 4×400.

Finishing third for the Dodgers was the sprint medley (Will McElroy, McBride, Eckley, Richardson); Kingrey was third in the long jump and Moser was fifth.

Kingrey was third in the 100-meter dash and Richardson was third in the high hurdles.

Point and Bryne were third and fifth respectively in the 800.

Hansen was fourth in the 1,600 and the 4×100 team of McElroy, Beckley, Kingrey and McBride were fourth.

“Our 4×8 improved again and the 4×2 dropped time as well,” Moser said. “We were short-handed and brought down only 17 kids. We were down to six to seven varsity kids.

“So it was good for this group to compete and bring back some seconds and thirds and all of our relays were fourth or better.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Tuesday when they head to the Nevada Invitational.

Starting at $2.99/week.
