Triton softball team picks up four wins

MELBOURNE, Fla. — The Iowa Central softball squad scored 59 runs in a four-game sweep here on Sunday and Monday during their Florida trip.

The 22nd-ranked Tritons (10-1 overall) defeated Minnesota North College-Rainy River (15-2), St. Cloud Technical and Community College (8-0), Joliet (8-0) and Hocking (28-0).

Natalie Rasmussen and Ellie Nolte both drove in two runs against MNC-RR, with Rasmussen scoring twice and driving in a pair. Jadeyn Stahr (2-0) was the winning pitcher.

Jayda Long had two hits and fired a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts for Iowa Central against SCT. Kennedy Palmer, Cailyn Hardy and Avery McKinney all scored twice.

Long was 2-for-3 with three runs and a pair of RBI in the victory over Joliet. Palmer was 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Jillian French (2-0) struck out eight to earn the win.

A 19-run first inning fueled the Tritons versus Hocking. Long and Sydney Wilson recorded three hits each, with Long and Hardy going deep. Wilson drove in four and Rasmussen three. Long scored four times.

Iowa Central returns to action here on Wednesday, facing Lake Michigan and Black Hawk.
