Tritons win baseball series at DMACC
BOONE — The 19th-ranked Iowa Central baseball team claimed their ICCAC opening series over Des Moines Area, winning two of three games.
The Tritons swept action here on Saturday by scores of 6-4 and 14-3 before dropping Monday’s finale, 11-1.
In the series opener, Iowa Central rallied with four runs in the seventh to secure the win. Chayton Fischer drove in two and Cade Sears added an RBI, two runs and two walks.
Spencer Pederson and Jake Busson each drew two walks as Ryan Ohm earned the win, improving to 4-0 with nine strikeouts. Chris McCormack closed the door, earning the save with two strikeouts.
A seven-run eighth ended the nightcap of that doubleheader early, as Busson went deep with Colin Richie driving in three.
Fischer, Busson and Mitchell Seykora each had two RBI with Busson scoring three runs. Carter Giesen moved to 3-0, notching 11 strikeouts over six innings of work on the mound.
Cooper Nicholson had a solo home run to lead off the contest on Monday for the lone Triton run. Busson reached base twice and Braxton Shaffer had five Ks.
The Bears are now 8-14 overall.
Iowa Central (18-5) returns to action on Wednesday when they host Iowa Western at Rogers Park at 1 p.m.
