EAGLE GROVE — Behind two double-event winners and a host of other Top-5 finishes, the St. Edmond girls track and field team placed third here Thursday night at the Lady Eagle Relays.
Algona claimed team honors with 134 points followed by Garner-Hayfield/Ventura. The Gaels were third followed by West Hancock, Webster City, Fort Dodge, Clarion-Goldfield/Dows, Bishop Garrigan, host Eagle Grove and Mason City Newman.
Mariah Myers and Anna Lursen each picked up two golds, as Myers swept the throwing events and Lursen won the 400-meter run and 400 hurdles.
Josie Harvey added a first in the 100 hurdles.
“I am very happy with how the girls performed,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We tried some girls out in some different events and everyone went out and competed. The wind was harsh, but everyone had to run through it.
“All these girls continue to go out each and every night and impress us. It makes us as coaches more excited to see how far they can go this season.”
Myers had a throw of 129-3 in the discus to top the field by almost 12 feet. The senior added a throw of 41-9 in the shot put, topping 40 for the first time. She won that title by over seven feet.
Lursen went 1:00.62 in the 400 open and clocked a time of 1:11.16 in the hurdles. Harvey went 16.52 in the 100 hurdles.
Sasha Hess was third in the 400 while the distance medley relay of Brianna Saathoff, Ava Bradley, Alex Leiting and Naomi Valles also took third.
Leiting was fifth in the 800 and Lily Eslick right behind in sixth.
Algona won seven events courtesy Natalie Johnson (100), Regan Jensen (800), Mara Davis (1,500) and Maya Lentz (high jump). The Bulldogs also claimed the 4×100, sprint medley and distance medley relays.
Bishop Garrigan’s Julia Swift captured the 3,000 and Addyson Jeske won the long jump.
St. Edmond is right back in action on Friday when they head to Jefferson for the Ram Early Bird. Joining the Gaels and host Greene County in the field will be Manson Northwest Webster, Southeast Valley, Ogden and Panorama.
