Daniel earns bronze at Duncan
DES MOINES — Fort Dodge’s Noah Daniel got a taste of what he’s hoping the Blue Oval will bring later this spring.
The Dodger junior had a third-place effort in the 100-meter dash at the ultra-competitive Jim Duncan Invitational inside Drake Stadium on Saturday.
Daniel, who entered as the 48th seed, was in the slow heat, but took bronze behind the top two seeds with a wind-hampered time of 11.35.
“The 100 guys were running straight into a 20-mile an hour head wind,” said FDSH head coach Nik Moser. “Noah went faster in Marshalltown (last week), but that was with no wind.
“He ran against a lot of the top kids in the state.”
Fort Dodge’s 4×100 team of senior Rylan Kingrey, freshman Luke Beckley, junior Tytrell Mosley and Daniel entered as the 27th seed and finished 18th.
The quartet of senior Hunter Richardson, sophomore Sam Moser, Beckley and sophomore Zak Jorgensen placed 19th in the 4×400.
The Dodger 4×800 squad of sophomore Jayce Point, sophomore Cael Hansen, freshman Avery Bryhne and freshman Joseph Petersen entered 23rd and placed 15th in 8:38.
“They knocked nine seconds off their time,” Moser said. “They’re starting to get down there and that’s pretty impressive with two freshmen and two sophomores.”
The 4×200 team of Rylan Kingrey, Sam Moser, Tytrell Mosley and Daniel was 19th. Point was 25th in the 800 (2:06.39).
Hansen had a PR of 4:51.52 in his 34th-place 1,600 performance.
“We’re not shying away from competition and this was good to see with a young group,” Moser said.
After the Dodger Relays on Monday, Fort Dodge is at Cedar Falls on Thursday.
