Dodgers get on the board
WATERLOO — The Fort Dodge boys soccer team broke through on Thursday night.
The Dodgers (1-5 overall) snapped a 16-match losing streak with a 3-0 win over Waterloo East (0-4).
“It’s great to go out and get a win,” said Fort Dodge head coach Joe Jackson. “We played a great game at Sioux City East the other night, getting a goal to cut the lead to 2-1.
“That gave us a big boost and we did that again (Thursday).”
Ericson Morales had a hat trick for the Dodgers. Madden Bailey assisted on two goals, while Mateo Ron had the other.
Morales had two goals in the first half.
“Ericson had some great shots,” Jackson said. “They were just rockets.”
Fort Dodge had 18 shots, seven on goal for their fourth straight victory over the Trojans.
Fort Dodge goalkeeper Alex Berger had four saves on the night.
“We talked about having a clean sheet,” Jackson said. “We were a little shaky at first with balls over the top to the two forwards as we were marking to high. We backed off and handled it well. Everyone clued into it and kept good position.
“Alex did a great job adjusting to that and reading when to come out and when to stay home.”
The Dodgers are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Mason City.
