The St. Edmond track team closed the Dodger Relays on Monday with a photo finish in the 4×400.

Aaron Hindt tracked down Waukee Northwest’s Alex Thompson on the final leg, crossing the tape in 3:37.05.

The Wolves were at 3:37.14.

Levi Odor-Westrum was the lead leg, handing off to Grant Galles. Anthony Valles was next, with Hindt closing out the victory.

“That was a great way to end the meet,” said SEHS head coach Donn Larson. “I thought about switching up the order, but we kept it the same and it paid off.

“We ended up getting a (season) PR by about five seconds.”

The Gaels brought home four championships in all yesterday evening. Aaron Hindt claimed the 200-meter dash, and Valles was the 800-meter gold medalist. The distance medley also prevailed.

St. Edmond placed fifth, scoring 62 points. Waukee Northwest (159) was the champion, followed by Humboldt (134), Mason City (108) and Fort Dodge (105).

The Gaels earned the distance medley title by more than eight seconds (3:52.16) over Humboldt (4:04.85). Galles, Odor-Westrum, Hindt and Valles provided the winning combination.

“This is the first time (this season) we haven’t had a PR in the 4×800,” Larson said. “We pushed through it with our best group.”

Valles (2:08.47) just edged Waukee Northwest’s Harrison Fleming (2:08.61) in the 800. Four runners fought to the finish, as Northwest’s Roy Verastiegui (2:08.95) and Fort Dodge’s Jayce Point (2:09.01) had strong efforts as well.

“Anthony had a good night, winning the 800, second in the 1,600, and part of the distance medley and the 4×400,” Larson said. “It’s nice as a group to run against different kids.

“Now we have a break and a chance to rest after a busy stretch.”

Hindt crossed the tape in 22.94 in the 200, just ahead of Fort Dodge’s Noah Daniel (23.37).

“Aaron had a great night,” Larson said. “It was cold and windy, but we still had some strong times. He had a PR by a foot in the long jump.”

Valles (4:59.81) had a second-place showing in the 1,600. Henry Hansen (4:58.28) of Mason City was the winner.

Hindt was third in the long jump, going 20-08. Liam Shannon (11:14.49) was fourth in the 3,200.

Odor-Westrum (2:11) was fifth in the 800.

The Gaels will be in action next Tuesday at Webster City.
