Fort Dodge boys open with 9-2 victory

The Fort Dodge boys tennis team claimed a 9-2 decision over Des Moines North here Thursday at Dodger courts.

Earning wins in singles were Micah Flaherty, Tate Balkenende, Corban McHone, Jaxton Jones and Jaxon Price. McHone, a freshman, was making his debut on the courts.

“For the first time, I thought we played well,” FDSH head coach Scott Messerly said. “Des Moines North had some decent kids and the two matches we lost were in three sets.

“We’ve got some new kids we are figuring out where to put them but it all worked out.”

In doubles, Flaherty and Balkenende, Jones and Price, Aidan Russell and Mason Lundberg, and Jayden Stanley and Jayden Lennon were winners.

The Dodgers host Sergeant Bluff-Luton and Spencer on Monday for a triangular before welcoming in Mason City on Tuesday.
