Gaels cruise past Storm Lake
The St. Edmond girls tennis team handled business on a chilly Monday afternoon at Butler courts, sweeping Storm Lake, 9-0.
The Gaels (2-0 overall, 2-0 in NCC) received singles wins from Lauren Gibb, Payton Bradley, Cambree Lunn, Ava Andrew, Ava Underberg and Abby Huss.
Combined, the six dropped just eight games, as Gibb, Underberg and Huss all pitched 8-0 shutouts.
“I felt like the girls came ready to play,” SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. “They took care of business throughout the lineup. It was definitely a cold day, but the girls played so well.
“With how they played out there, I think they definitely were able we got the meet in.”
In doubles, Gibb and Bradley, Lunn and Andrew, and Underberg and Palmer completed the sweep. They dropped just four total games in the three matches.
“We’ve been putting in the work during practice,” Neverman said. “It was awesome to see the girls out there, especially the ones who got their first wins on the junior varsity side.”
St. Edmond swept all nine junior varsity singles matches, as Braelynn Rees, Lucy Midtling, Nina Smith, Lizzie Tiernan, Olivia Andrew, Jade Rock, Ashlyn Swisher, Jennifer Touney and Betsy Gruver picked up victories.
Next action for the Gaels will be on Tuesday when they travel to Nevada. They close out the week with another road dual at Aplington-Parkersburg on Thursday.
