Lursen sets two records for Gaels

JEFFERSON — Anna Lursen added her name to the St. Edmond track and field history books here Friday night, securing a spot at the Drake Relays in the process.

Lursen won the 400-meter run in a school record time of 56.97, hitting the Blue Standard to automatically qualify for the Drake Relays. The junior also broke the school record in the 400 hurdles, and ran the anchor leg on the winning sprint medley relay.

St. Edmond finished third overall behind Ogden and Greene County, as Manson Northwest Webster was fourth and Southeast Valley placed sixth.

On the boys side, Southeast Valley was second behind Forest City with Manson Northwest Webster placing fifth.

“Three track meets in four days is tough, but these girls went out and competed once again,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “The weather conditions were excellent and we couldn’t be happier with these girls and how all of them ran.”

Lursen went 1:06.20 to lead a 1-2 finish in the 400 hurdles, as senior Josie Harvey grabbed silver. Harvey was also third in the 100 hurdles.

Faith Shirbroun, Harvey and Sasha Hess rounded out the winning sprint medley relay, which went 1:52.99. Shirbroun, Ava Bradley, Hess and Naomi Valles placed third in the distance medley, while McKenna Kvale, Bradley, Myrah Lemon and Brianna Saathoff claimed bronze in the 4×200.

“To get our second automatic qualifier for Drake was exciting after Mariah qualified in the shot put on Thursday,” Tracy said. “We’ve got one meet next week to see if we can get anything else.”

Manson Northwest Webster picked up four first place finishes, as Matt Condon claimed the 110 hurdles and long jump to go along with a second in the high jump. Alyssa Richman won the 1,500 and Thatcher Oswald the 800.
