No. 17 Tritons dominate twice on softball diamond
The No. 17 Iowa Central softball team had little trouble with Southwestern here Tuesday at Rogers Park.
After winning 13-1 in five innings in the opener, the Tritons (28-5 overall, 7-3 in the ICCAC) finished the sweep with a 9-0 victory in five.
Bre Nolte had a two-run homer in the opener and a grand slam in the nightcap as Iowa Central went yard a total of five times. Carly Ryan, Kyra Kain and Gracie Kirk also hit home runs.
“Bre was locked in,” ICCC head coach Bo Tjebben said. “Her sister is an assistant coach at Southwestern, so I think she was a motivated a little more.
“We pitched and hit the ball very well. I thought we also played good defense.”
Jayda Long had three hits in the opener and scored three runs, Nolte finished with two hits, three RBI and two runs, Ryan was 3-for-3 with two runs and three runs driven in, and Cary had two hits.
Long earned the win, striking out four over four innings with three hits and one earned run allowed. The sophomore is now 13-2 on the season with 74 strikeouts.
The nightcap saw Nolte go 2-for-2 with the four RBI, scoring twice, while Ryan and Kirk both had two RBI. Jadeyn Stahr pitched all five innings, allowing just three hits and one walk to improve to 6-1.
On the day, the Tritons scored in all but one inning they came to bat in, highlighted by a seven-run fourth in the first game.
Iowa Central is right back in action on Wednesday when they host Hawkeye (10-27, 1-9) for a twinbill beginning at 2 p.m. They are in the midst of playing 10 straight at Rogers Park.
