The 17th-ranked Iowa Central softball team split with a Top-10 ICCAC foe on Sunday, tripping up DMACC in dramatic fashion at Rogers Park to cap the twinbill.
The Tritons (33-6 overall, 12-4 in the league) clipped the No. 7 Bears by a 3-2 final with a run in the bottom of the seventh of game two. DMACC took the opener, 12-3.
“It was great to get another split against a great opponent ranked seventh nationally,” ICCC head coach Bo Tjebben said.
Reagan Enright’s home run was the difference, as she provided the dramatics to secure the split. Enright had two hits, while Natalie Rasmussen drove in a pair.
Cailyn Hardy was 3-for-3 in the victory. Jadeyn Stahr was the winning pitcher, firing a complete game seven-hitter.
Kyra Kain went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI in the opener on Sunday.
On Saturday, the Tritons rode a five-inning perfect game from ace Jayda Long to a sweep.
Long went five innings, facing the minimum 15 and striking out three in an 11-0 triumph over Northeast (15-24, 3-11).
Iowa Central then took the nightcap, 5-2.
In her perfect game, Long also drove in a pair as part of the win.
“Jayda pitched well,” said Tjebben. “We swung it very well the first game, even with the wind blowing straight in with 35 mile per hour gusts.
“It’s fun watching the girls play well.”
Hardy had three hits, while Breanna Nolte, Kain, Kaylee Cary, Enright and Avery McKinney added two hits each. Cary, McKinney, Kain, Enright and Nolte tallied doubles, while Nolte recorded a triple.
Rasmussen slugged a home run.
Nolte drove in four runs, while Rasmussen and Enright recorded two RBI each. Cary and McKinney also picked up RBI.
The Tritons had an eight-hit effort in the 5-2 victory, led by five extra-base hits. Cary and Gracie Kirk had home runs. Nolte added a triple, while Sydney Wilson and Hardy each came up with doubles.
Nolte, Rasmussen, Cary and Kirk drove in runs.
Stahr earned the win, going seven innings, allowing four hits, while striking out four.
“Game 2 was a great game,” Tjebben said. “Stahr pitched very well and we played great defense and got some timely hits.”
The Tritons, who have won 13 of 15 overall, host Marshalltown on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Rogers Park for a doubleheader.
