The Iowa Central softball team is exhausted.
After reaching 30 wins on the year here Wednesday with a sweep of Hawkeye at Rogers Park, the 17th-ranked Tritons have earned a day off in the eyes of head coach Bo Tjebben.
Scores were 11-1 and 6-1.
Iowa Central (30-5 overall, 9-3 in ICCAC) has played 10 games since the calendar flipped from March to April, going 9-1 during that time. They are riding a four-game winning streak in which they have outscored the opposition, 39-3.
“These girls are tired,” Tjebben said. “It’s been awesome to be at home, but I can tell they are getting a little worn out.
“I’m gonna give them (Thursday) off to rest up.”
The Tritons are in the middle of a 10-game stretch of games on their new home turf at Rogers Park, where they have gone 6-2 this year. They host Northeast and seventh-ranked Des Moines Area this weekend.
Natalie Rasmussen got the scoring going with a two-run homer in the first inning as part of a three-run frame. She finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and three runs scored, reaching a third time on a walk.
Cailyn Hardy had two hits, with one of them being a two-run homer in the fourth to make it 6-1. Bre Nolte stayed hot at the plate, collecting two hits, driving in three and scoring three times including a game-ending homer.
Kyra Kain drove in two runs in support of Jayda Long, as she improved to 14-2 on the year with nine strikeouts and just two hits allowed over five innings.
Hardy added her second home run of the day to lead game two off with Sydney Wilson making it 2-1 with a solo shot in the second. Rasmussen connected for her second homer of the doubleheader in the third.
Both Hardy and Wilson had two hits each in the game. Hardy and Rasmussen each had two RBI as six different players scored a run.
Jadeyn Stahr and Jillian French combined on a five-hitter in the nightcap, striking out three with just one walked issued.
