The Fort Dodge girls tennis team opened their season here Thursday with an 11-0 victory over Des Moines North at Dodger courts.

Picking up singles wins for the Dodgers were Manuela Rodriguez, Aynura Muftillaeva, Grace Behrens, Lacey Larson, Madge Hensley and Kaitlyn Folsom.

“It was really good to get a match in,” FDSH head coach Julie Astor said. “We had some girls with nerves that they had to work through and they did, which was great to see.”

In doubles, Rodriguez and Behrens, Muftillaeva and Hensley, Larson and Folom, Claire Thompson and Kam Gochee, and Grace Rivera and Mia Carpenter completed the sweep with victories.

“I thought we had great performances from the top of our lineup down through our junior varsity matches,” Astor said. “We were able to work on several things we’ve been doing in practice and I think that gave them a lot of confidence moving forward.”

The Dodgers are now in for a busy stretch starting Monday when they travel to Spencer. Fort Dodge is at Mason City Tuesday, hosts Des Moines Roosevelt and Thursday and returns to Spencer for a tournament a week from Saturday.

Starting at $2.99/week.
