St. Edmond girls stay unbeaten in tennis
APLINGTON — The St. Edmond girls tennis team remained unbeaten during the early portion of the season with a 5-4 victory over Aplington-Parkersburg here Friday night.
Ava Andrew and Cambree Lunn, along with Ava Underberg and Chloe Palmer, sealed the dual with wins in doubles for the Gaels (4-0 overall).
Andrew, Underberg and Abby Huss were winners in singles.
“Ava and Cambree fought from behind to win a tight match,” SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. “They locked in when it mattered.”
Lauren Gibb dropped a tough match at No. 1 singles against a fellow ranked opponent in Adria Neymeyer. The Falcons had won their first two duals of the season over Independence and South Hardin without droppng a match.
“Lauren really did a great job of clawing back into her match after getting down early,” Neverman said. “The girls all played well. Even the Aplington-Parkersburg coach commented that we were so consistent and patient that it was very frustrating for her team.”
St. Edmond and Aplington-Parkersburg will see each other again this year when they both compete in the Pella Invitational on April 26.
The St. Edmond junior varsity girls won six of seven matches, as Olivia Andrew and Jade Rock paired up for two. Other winners included teht eams of Nicole Mosier and Nina Smith, Ashlyn Swisher and Jennifer Touney, Lucy Midtling and Smith, and Lizzy Tiernan and Betsy Gruver.
Up next for the Gaels will a trip to Clear Lake on Tuesday.
