Tritons finish third at nationals

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. — The Iowa Central sports shooting team wrapped up their season recently with a third place performance here at the ACUI/SCTP National Championship.

Over 100 schools and 1,200 student-athletes took part in the six-day event, as the Tritons earned six event finishes inside the Top-5.

That included a runner-up in American Skeet from the team of Cody Dickerson, Kaelan Smith, Josh Kenkel, Grant Clark and Jacob Geis, who finished with a score of 479 out of 500.

“I was proud of this team for staying focused all week long,” ICCC head coach Jessica Gunderson said. “The scores were not quite where we wanted them to be, but everyone kept fighting for every target.”

Dickerson and Smith both hit 98 of 100 targets during the event, and both were on the fourth place Doubles Skeet, fifth place Doubles Trap and fifth place Super Sporting units.

Kenkel led the Doubles Skeet with a 91, same as Smith, with Clark, Dickerson and Geis joining. The American Trap four consisted of Dickerson, Carter Draeger, Kenkel, Nathan Swanson and Aaron Boleyn while Sporting Clays featured Trevor Blauert, Boleyn, Tyler Resor, Smith and Geis.

Dickerson, Kenkel, Allen Brenner, Nate Bronk and Smith competed in Doubles Trap, with Blauert, Resor, Dickerson, Smith and Hayden Koch in Super Sporting.

“We’re going to be graduating a lot of team members who have shown great commitment to our program and led the way for our freshmen,” Gunderson said. “I’m confident our returners will learn and grow from their experiences and help lead next year’s team towards great achievements.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
