Tritons put on an offensive show

MARSHALLTOWN — The 12th-ranked Iowa Central softball team scored 40 runs in a doubleheader sweep over Marshalltown here Tuesday.

Scores were 24-3 and 16-1 in five innings.

The Tritons (35-6 overall, 12-4 in ICCAC) scored 11 runs in the first inning of both games.

Gracie Kirk and Kaylee Cary each hit home runs in the opener, as Kirk drove in four runs. Jayda Long was 4-for-5 at the plate with five RBI and four runs scored, as Bre Nolte went 4-for-4 with five RBI and four runs.

Kyra Kain plated three runs and Cailyn Hardy finished 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI.

“The girls are really playing some great team softball right now,” ICCC head coach Bo Tjebben said. “We took advantage of the pitches we were given at the plate.”

Long also struck out five in two innings of work while Abagail Winter had six strikeouts over three.

In the nightcap, Sydney Wilson went deep, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs. Natalie Rasmussen was 3-for-4 with three RBI while Jillian French struck out eight.

Iowa Central heads to Hawkeye on Wednesday for a doubleheader.
