HUDSON — The beat goes on for the 12th-ranked (NJCAA Div. II) Iowa Central softball squad.

The surging Tritons picked up two more lopsided victories here on Wednesday, easily handling Hawkeye Community College by scores of 13-0 and 5-1.

Head coach Bo Tjebben’s team has now won 17 of its last 19 games overall.

“Like with the Marshalltown (doubleheader on Tuesday), we wanted to rest our starters as much as possible and get everyone a good amount of playing time,” Tjebben said. “We did that, though their pitcher in the (nightcap) kept us off balance and had a really solid rise ball.

“We took care of business, though. We’re just approaching things one game at a time — trying to stay both humble and confident, knowing we have a lot of tough competition coming up.”

Natalie Rasmussen, Bre Nolte and Reagan Enright all homered in the opener for Iowa Central (37-6 overall, 15-4 in the ICCAC), which kept its second-place standing in the league race behind only DMACC (40-5, 16-2). Rasmussen also doubled, scored twice and drove in three.

Jayda Long (17-3) worked three scoreless innings for the victory, striking out five. She also doubled and drove in a pair.

Avery McKinney was 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the first contest against Hawkeye (10-35, 1-17).

Nolte and Sydney Wilson went deep in the nightcap. Wilson and Long had three hits each, while Wilson and Nolte both drove in a pair.

Jadeyn Stahr (10-1) fired a complete-game six-hitter.

“Our pitching and defense has been solid, and softball is all about timely hitting, which we’ve had as well,” Tjebben said. “Our team culture has been great; we just don’t have any egos or drama about playing time or anything else. When your name is called, you step up. That’s the expectation, and the girls have bought into that.

“I truly feel like the team all loves and supports each other, which is so important in addition to (the talent on the field).”

The Tritons are back in action at home against Iowa Lakes on Friday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at Rogers Park.
