Tritons secure six more national bids
The Iowa Central track and field teams secured six more bids to the NJCAA Championships at the Mule Relays and Mustang Carnival this past weekend.
In the 800, Said Rifi Loutfi, Yasser Soualah and Saad Rifi Loutfi earned bids to nationals. Both Soufyane Laaziz, Chakib Cherkaoui and Abbigail Hutchinson all advanced in the 1,500.
Laaziz placed his name fourth on the school’s all-time list in the 1,500 with seven others earning Top-10 placings.
“We split our team, competing some in the in the Mule Relays at the University of Central Missouri and the rest were at Mt. Mercy University for the Mustang Carnival,” ICCC director of track and field Dee Brown said. “We gained some more national qualifiers in Missouri. In Cedar Rapids, we had two beautiful days of weather and achieved a number of new personal bests.
“Our team is looking more well-rounded each week. We keep adding more people in more events to the national meet.”
Iowa Central is at Mankato, Minn. for the Maverick Invitational this Friday.
