Playoff implications everywhere in area

The Class 1A, District 3 championship may come down to Friday's action in a ranked contest.

Eighth-ranked Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (5-1 overall, 3-0 in the district) will host ninth-rated South Hardin (5-1, 2-1).

The Cowboys have run through their first three district opponents and look to add another big win this week.

South Hardin suffered its first loss of the season last Friday, falling to Grundy Center (41-40). The Cowboys, meanwhile, toppled Eagle Grove 40-6.

In all five of their victories, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows has scored over 40 points.

Last week, the Cowboys ran for 281 yards and five trips to the end zone on the ground.

Colin Sesker ran the ball 17 times for 114 yards and a five-yard score. J.D. Morrical ran for 70 yards, while Reed Campbell had 67 yards.

Morrical had a score and Campbell hit paydirt twice. Maxton Downing had a nine-yard touchdown.

In their loss last week, South Hardin threw for 193 yards and ran for 189. Braden Weig was 20-for-34 passing for 193 yards and one TD.

Manning Plantz had three touchdowns, while Weigh and Kameron Adams also scored.

On the season, Sesker has 466 yards for C-G/D. Also leading the charge for the Cowboys are Morrical (391), Campbell (385), Charlie Campbell (297), and Downing (235).

Esker has seven TDs, while Reed Campbell has six. Also leading the way are Charlie Campbell (five scores), Morrical (four), and Downing (four).

Morrical has thrown five touchdown passes. Paxton Lingenfelter and Huxley Lingenfelter have two touchdown catches each, and Charlie Campbell has one.

Weig has thrown for 1,749 yards and 22 TDs. Kameron Adams has ran for 494 and three touchdowns.

Manning Plantz has four scores.

Leading the receiving corps is Casey Williamson (454), Joshua Spindler (353), Colby Zollar (307), Grant Meister (265), and Aspen Briggs (257). Williamson has seven scores and Spindler has six.

Zollar has reached paydirt four times, while Meister and Briggs have two, and Regan Eide, one.

NO. 4 SPIRIT LAKE (4-2, 2-1) at SOUTHEAST VALLEY (5-1, 2-1)

The Jaguars pulled what some may have considered an upset last week, knocking off Okoboji, 14-13. Casey Hansen was the main reason, throwing for a touchdown and rushing for one with 102 yards on the ground. Logan Jaeschke was the recipient of the scoring strike.

Now Southeast Valley must prepare for Spirit Lake, which defeated top-rated Carroll Kuemper a week ago.

The Indians burst out to a 28-0 lead and posted a 31-13 win. Spirit Lake had two backs go over 100 yards, as Brayden Sulivan had 108 and two scores. Kyson Jalas had 101 and one TD, and Ty Higgins had a rushing touchdown.

Hansen has ran for 554 yards and four touchdowns for SV, while throwing for 637 and 13 scores.

Mason Bahr has one rushing TD, as well as Wyatt Muench and Tristan Hanson.

For Spirit Lake, Brayden Sullivan has 419 yards and five scores and Higgins has 287 for five as well. Halas has four rushing touchdowns.

MANSON NW WEBSTER (3-3, 2-1) at S. CENTRAL CALHOUN (5-1, 2-1)

Four programs in Class 1A, District 2 are 2-1 to date, so the title remains up for grabs.

The Titans made the district close, upsetting previously-unbeaten East Sac County last Friday, 35-12. Manson Northwest Webster toppled Emmetsburg for the third straight season.

SCC had two running backs go over 125 yards. Garrett Krause ran for 151 and two scores, while Cooper Nattress had 135 for two touchdowns as well.

Luke Patterson threw for 47 yards and had a 19-yard touchdown pass to Evan Myers.

Coy Moline was the main cog for the Cougars again versus the E-Hawks, running for 113 yards and two scores. Charlie Sturgis also added a touchdown on the ground.

MNW, which has rushed for 1,324 yards on the year, is led by Moline. The 2025 all-state selection has rumbled for 827 yards and 10 TDs.

Sturgis has three touchdown runs. Moline and Isaiah Daggett have combined to throw for three scores.

The Titans have 1,781 yards on the ground, led by 508 from Nattress, who also has four scores. Krause has 400 yards and five scores. Brayden Werneburg has run for four TDs, while Hayden Stickrod has two.

John Patterson, Reid Meyer, Avery Patterson, and Dustin Dean have one score each for SCC.

WEST BEND-MALLARD (5-2, 2-1) at NO. 8 NORTH UNION (5-1, 2-1)

North Union suffered its first loss of the season last week, falling to fifth-rated and defending eight-player state champion Bishop Garrigan.

The Warriors came close to the Golden Bears, falling 34-28. North Union ran for 213 yards. Greyson Colegrove ran for 133 yards and three scores, while throwing for 158 and a nine-yard TD strike to Taylin Jones.

The Wolverines suffered a 56-14 defeat to Riceville. Grady Goddard had a touchdown and Trent Morey threw a 10-yard scoring strike to Goddard.

On the season, Morey has run for 592 yards and 12 touchdowns. Carter Stalzer has 564 yards and six scores.

Cesar Falcon has three TDs, as does Clayton Hoch.

Hoch has eight touchdown passes and Morey has five.

For North Union, Carson Crouch has scored 11 touchdowns on 865 yards. Colegrove has 13 scores and 647 yards.

Max Heinen and Drake Nelsen have three touchdowns each.
