Veronica Guyader explains how this half of the east exhibit hall has been reorganized, including these artifacts crafted by Sumner Heman, member of the Makawain Indian Lore club, based on traditional Plains Indian designs, materials, and techniques. The hall now includes more narrative about Native American treaties with the U.S. and the process by which natives were pushed west, giving background on the creation of the original fort and the Spirit Lake Massacre.

Veronica Guyader talks about the new schoolhouse, located at right next to the livery, at the Fort Museum and Frontier Village. Donated by Dr. Janet Secor, the building will depict the school era of the 1950s, the newest time period in the village.

After many years, the veterinarian’s office is finally ready for display, with help from Dr. Michael Bottorf, said Veronica Guyader. She said work is still being done to add labels to these displayed tools.

Once in an unusable state in the furniture display, this Swedish loom is now housed in the Carlson-Richey log cabin home, Veronica Guyader said. There it will be put back together by Kris Christy-Hogan, who will be giving demonstrations of its use during opening weekend.

U.S. Air Force Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Michael Sapp graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Sapp is the son of Candy Dewerff, of Fort Dodge, and Todd Sapp of Sioux City. He is a 2011 graduate of East High School, Sioux City, Iowa.
